The great Anthony Bourdain left his mark everywhere he went. When his death was announced to the world in June 2018, media throughout the globe chimed in and listed all the great things he had done for their respective city, town, province, country. Whereas before, tourists would shy away from exotic foods, thanks to him, travellers now go the extra mile to find and try local bites. With this in mind, here are all the restaurants Bourdain visited and the dishes he tasted when he shot Anthony Bourdain Bay Area for his show, Parts Unknown Season 6 Episode 5 (originally aired October 18, 2015). These can be great spots to grab some bites after taking hikes in the Bay Area.

WHAT IS IT?
Mai Tai is a rum-based cocktail, with Curaçao liqueur and lime juice. Barbecue Ribs – pork ribs either grilled or smoked.

WHAT IS IT?
A platter of jalapeño and cheddar hot links, frankaroni (a cross between hotdogs, and mac and cheese) brisket, smoked chicken, pork spare ribs, pork shoulder, chicharrones, coleslaw, baked beans, pozole, French fries, spicy fries and potato salad.

DISH – Fried Chicken, Dirty Rice and Collard Greens – Anthony Bourdain Bay Area
WHAT IS IT?
Chicken pieces, battered then fried; Creole rice dish of white rice cooked with chopped meat, celery and green bell pepper, spiced with black pepper and cayenne; Collard greens cooked quickly in oil, often with a squeeze of lemon juice.

Miss Ollie’s was where Anthony Bourdain had a meal with Bobby Seale, a co-founder of the Black Panthers. They discussed Black Lives Matter and civil rights over fried chicken, dirty rice and collard greens.

DISH – Manchurian Cauliflower, Bhelpuri, Chili Paneer, Methi Chicken Curry and Lamb Kofta – Anthony Bourdain Bay Area
WHAT IS IT?
Manchurian Cauliflower is similar to General’s Chicken, made with vegetables; Bhelpuri is an Indian dish of amarind chutney, cilantro chutney, pickled cabbage, pickled onions, fresh green garbanzo beans, puffed rice and chickpea noodles; Chili Paneer is another Indian dish of vegetables simmered in soy sauce gravy; Methi Chicken Curry refers to yogurt-marinated chicken simmered in a curry made of onions, bell pepper, chilis and garam masala; Lamb Kofta is duck egg wrapped in minced lamb meat.

ANTHONY BOURDAIN BAY AREA NOTES
When Anthony Bourdain visited Juhu Beach Club, he sampled Chinese and Indian dishes with a twist. Instead of the traditional General’s Chicken, he had its vegetable counterpart: Manchurian Cauliflower. The Bhelpuri was served in a mason jar. The Chili Paneer was made of bok choy braised in arugula and amaranth leaves. While the Lamb Kofta came with a sauce that had a braised leg of lamb in it. As of this writing, Juhu Beach Club has recently closed.
DISH – Chicken Katsu and Shrimp Tempura with Curry Sauce – Parts Unknown Bay Area
WHAT IS IT?
Chicken fillet breaded with flour then deep fried, and deep-fried battered shrimp served with Japanese curry sauce.

Anthony Bourdain and his jiu-jitsu coach, Ralph Gracie, enjoyed the tasting menu at COI. Their meal consisted of Beet Rose – beet root shaped into a rose with yogurt and rose petal ice; egg yolk, creme fraiche, chives and California sturgeon caviar; peeled charred tomatoes, with a sauce of grilled zucchini and wheatgrass, topped with a lot of herbs and flowers; wild king salmon wrapped in yuba (tofu skin), with charred cabbage and dried scallop ginger sauce; seared spot prawn with sorrel and new onions; beef tenderloin encrusted in lichen, with coastal spinach, chanterelle mushrooms and Bordelaise sauce; and black sesame mochi with strawberry resembling a taco.
